Description

The Miller is responsible for operating oat milling production lines and related systems safely, efficiently, and in accordance with established procedures. This role supports oat kilning, cutting, flaking, and grinding processes while helping maintain product quality, maximize yield, and ensure compliance with applicable food safety, occupational health and safety, and environmental requirements.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate oat milling production lines in accordance with established standard operating procedures.
  • Monitor and control process parameters, including equipment performance, material flow, and product quality.
  • Adjust equipment settings as needed to maintain product specifications, optimize yield, and support efficient operations.
  • Complete production records and required documentation accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Conduct routine inspections, cleaning, and basic maintenance of process equipment.
  • Identify operational or mechanical concerns and promptly report issues to the Director of Operations.
  • Maintain clean, organized, and sanitary conditions throughout assigned work areas.
  • Perform routine housekeeping duties, including sweeping, vacuuming, wiping down equipment, removing waste, and controlling debris.
  • Follow all food quality, HACCP, sanitation, occupational health and safety, and environmental policies and procedures.
  • Maintain accurate production, quality, and operational records.
  • Assist with material handling of raw materials and finished products as required.
  • Collaborate effectively with maintenance, quality, and packaging teams to support production goals.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Experience in grain milling, food manufacturing, or industrial operations preferred.
  • Mechanical aptitude and basic troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions accurately.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety and quality.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Valid driver’s license and willingness to operate mobile equipment.

Work Environment

  • Ability to stand, walk, and lift up to 50 lbs. as needed.
  • Exposure to outdoor environments and varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to perform elevated work from platforms, ladders, and scaffolding as required.
  • Personal protective equipment (PPE) is required in all production areas of the facility.
  • This position requires extended periods of walking, standing, and moving throughout the facility.
  • Occasional extended hours, weekends, and/or on-call availability may be required to support plant operations and workforce needs.
  • Employees must be clean-shaven when performing tasks that require respiratory protection.
